You may bring your own food and beverages onboard for consumption at your seat or private Sleeping Car accommodations. However, you can only consume food and beverages purchased in Dining and Lounge Cars in those cars.
Based on the menus on Amtrak’s site, about $10-$15 for a lunch entree and $15-$25 for a dinner entree. It also varies depending on which train, one menu had one $39 dinner entree. And yes, you can bring your own food and drinks on board.

The following items are prohibited onboard the train: non-service animals, firearms and ammunition , hover boards, corrosive or dangerous chemicals and materials, incendiaries, martial arts and self-defense items, archery equipment, devices containing propellants, sharp objects, and similar items.
Each bedroom has the capacity of two adults (with an option for a third), one to two suitcases and are 6’6” x 7’6”. Unlike roomettes , our bedrooms also have an in – room toilet, shower and a sofa that converts to a bed.

Amtrak travelers 65 years of age and over are eligible to receive a 10% discount on most rail fares on most Amtrak trains. On cross-border services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada, a 10% Senior discount is applicable to travelers aged 60 and over.
A Viewliner roomette has a picture window with two wide, reclining seats that face each other. In the middle of the seats is a pull-up table that unfolds. There’s also an upper bunk with its own window and basket for reading glasses, etc. Right next to one of the seats is the “bathroom”.
Amtrak is doing away with its iconic dining car on overnight trains traveling on the East Coast, instead replacing them with “flexible dining services” of ready-to-serve food. The dining cars have been a part of Amtrak since it started service in 1971.
