Breakfast, lunch, dinner and restaurants
The new rules are: For formal nights, the cruise line recommends “suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns.” For smart casual nights, “think of this as a step up from your typical dinner wear ” and wear “collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits.”
For Dinner Cruises , we recommend business casual to dressy casual attire . For men, slacks or khaki pants, and a collared shirt with or without a jacket; for women slacks or skirt, with a collared shirt, or dress .
Casual is the key for what to wear on a river cruise . Days are spent ashore so you’ll want to bring comfortable clothing and very comfortable shoes. Most evenings on board are also casual, but not jeans and t-shirt casual. At dinner , men usually wear a collared shirt and maybe a sport coat.
approximately 2.5 hours
Jeans and baseball caps are not allowed in the restaurants for dinner . On informal nights, jackets (ties optional) for men are recommended, while women opt for dresses or pantsuits. Tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits for men and gowns or cocktail dresses for women are suggested for formal nights.

Think of our formal dress code as a night out in your best black-tie look — suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns are all acceptable options. There can be 1-3 formal nights during a sailing and is at the ship’s discretion.
If you want to attend a “ cruise elegant” evening , bring a fancier, more formal outfit. Men can wear suits or dress slacks with a sport coat and dress shirt. For women, cocktail dresses, pantsuits or elegant skirts and blouses are appropriate. Some guests like to go all out with a tuxedo or ball gown.
Bring casual clothes that are comfortable – that’s your main priority. Unlike ocean cruises where guests often dine in ballgowns and tuxedos, the dress code on a river cruise is much more relaxed and informal.
Day Wear Slacks, jeans, or shorts depending on the destination. Comfortable shoes or sandals to wear onboard the ship . Appropriate swimwear, including extra swimwear to wear while one suit dries. Swim covers if desired. T-shirts, tank tops, or other comfortable, loose clothing . Socks, lingerie, and other necessary garments.
