Fast food is generally a restaurant like McDonald’s where you go up to a counter and place your order and they had you your food . Some fast food places will bring the food to your table. But if it’s a restaurant where you go in and sit down and a waiter comes to your table, that’s not fast food .
Almost any restaurant that has you ordering from a menu is not fast – food . Even a small place where almost everything is carried out can be “ not fast food ” if each meal is individually prepared for the customer.
According to a study done by the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, on average, meals at fast casual dining stops are at least 200 calories more than meals at fast food places (around 760 kcal compared to 560 kcal). That said, there’s a lot more to eating healthy than just counting calories.
Common menu items at fast food outlets include fish and chips, sandwiches, pitas, hamburgers, fried chicken, french fries, onion rings, chicken nuggets, tacos, pizza, hot dogs, and ice cream, though many fast food restaurants offer “slower” foods like chili, mashed potatoes, and salads.
The hamburger restaurant most associated by the public with the term “fast food” was created by two brothers originally from Nashua, New Hampshire. Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a barbecue drive-in in 1940 in the city of San Bernardino , California.
For some, the connection is obvious, like McDonald’s, which was named after the founding McDonald’s brothers, or Jimmy John’s, named after founder Jimmy John Liautaud.

Most sandwich shops like Subway, Quiznos, Blimpie’s and Panera have soup. Wendy’s has chili, Long John Silvers has chowder.
Pizza is not only delicious but can also be a healthy meal choice when thought is put into its preparation. Though many frozen and fast – food varieties tend to be high in calories, fat, sodium and other unhealthy ingredients, pizza can be made healthier .
